Considering the costs and headaches associated with improperly maintained medical instrumentation, it’s clear that the adage, "an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure," is aptly suited. If angry surgeons berating the central service department over broken, damaged and poorly functioning devices isn’t enough to make facilities open their eyes to the importance of a well-implemented preventive maintenance program, then consider the risks that malfunctioning devices pose to patients at the receiving end of the instrument.
